On 'Take Your Child to Work Day', the Tourism Bureau gained two honorary employees, Anthony and Ava. While they spent some time with us, we asked them to list their favorite things to do in Butler County and why they enjoy them; here’s what they had to say:
Anthony: “I like to go to the park because I like to climb on the obstacles at the playground.”
Cranberry Township’s Community Park offers Kid’s Castle Playground, a fantasy world of sights, sounds and play equipment specifically designed for children ages two through 12, baseball fields, a dog park, sport courts and an amphitheatre used for outdoor movies and concerts.
Ava: “I enjoy going to Cranberry Waterpark because I like to swim in their big pool, get food from the Snack Shack and hang out with my friends.”
Cranberry Community Waterpark is a great way to cool down and enjoy summertime fun! You can whisk down water slides, dip into their diving well, scale a water climbing wall, get soaked by a giant dump bucket and more!
Anthony: “I like to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins practice and play ice hockey.”
UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex is the practice facility for the Pittsburgh Penguins and features Learn to Play programs, hockey clinics, open and community skate, youth hockey programs and more!
Ava: “I like it because you get to watch them make the ice cream in front of you and it is delicious!”
NatuRoll Creamery makes ice cream using a popular technique in Thailand, where a cream base is spread onto a pan, your favorite toppings like fresh fruit, pretzels, cookies, etc. are added, and then rolled and crafted right before your eyes.
Ava: “I like going to Get Air because I can jump around with my friends.”
Get Air Pittsburgh is an indoor trampoline park located in Zelienople. It features wall-to-wall trampolines, foam pits, dodge-ball and a ninja obstacle course.
Anthony: “I like to watch movies like Despicable Me and Sing while eating popcorn.”
The Strand Theater is a former movie and vaudeville theater dating back to 1914. Now restored, it presents top-notch live entertainment like Broadway performers, along with classic and current films.
Anthony: “I enjoy going to the Butler Farm Show because I get to pet the cows.”
The Butler Farm Show is August 6-11th, and will be celebrating its 70th season. The Farm Show showcases the county’s farming community at the showgrounds on Route 68 with farming exhibits, tractor pulls, crafts, rides, food and demonstrations.
Ava: “I like going to the fair because I get to go on lots of rides and eat deep fried oreos.”
The Big Butler Fair runs from July 1-7th. It’s the largest fair in western PA and is considered by many to be the best in the country. This year, the fair will be celebrating its 163rd anniversary. Families from throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and West Virginia come to enjoy fireworks, midway, games, demolition derbies, concerts, truck pulls and more.
Anthony: “I like lots of things at Graham Park, like riding my bike on the trails, playing on the Pirate playground and playing on the dek hockey rink.”
Graham Park has walking trails, a large variety of fields, sports courts, a community garden, an accessible playground that features a pirate ship and much more.
Anthony: “I like going to The Snowman to get a green apple Yeti (shaved ice combined with ice cream).”
The Snowman is a popular roadside attraction in Portersville. The menu selection offers something for everyone, but the bestselling is the Yeti. You can select any one of their 24 flavors of shaved ice combined with Hershey's® vanilla or chocolate ice cream and whipped cream on top!
Ava: “I like Playthings because I can look at lots of toys.”
Playthings Etc. Family Toys & Hobbies is known as “The World’s Coolest Toy Store”. Inside this stealth-shaped steel building, are awesome toys where playing is encouraged. This shop will let your little ones try the toys, so it's actually more like a giant playground. Discover 3,000+ playthings, from mind-bending science to throwbacks you'll remember playing with when you were little.
Anthony: “I like Jellystone Park at Kozy Rest because it has lots of fun stuff like a swimming pool, playground, cabins and fun activities.”
Yogi Bear's award winning Jellystone Park at Kozy Rest is one of Butler County’s most popular campgrounds. You can roll out the sleeping bags or rent cabins, either way you’ll be surrounded by tall trees and beautiful scenery. With tons of amenities and activities for the kids, this campground offers fun for the whole family.
Anthony: “My favorite things to do at Moraine State Park are renting pontoon boats, going to the beach, fishing, and attending events like Regatta and Winterfest. I also like watching the Douse for a House, Polar Bear Plunge.”
Moraine State Park is the county’s biggest attraction and sees over 2 million visitors a year. The park is over 16,000 acres and offers a variety of activities for year round enjoyment like swimming, camping, fishing, hiking, biking, boating, cross-country skiing and more! The main attraction at Moraine State Park is Lake Arthur, the largest man-made lake in the state! Several major events are also hosted at the park and draw in thousands of visitors.
Anthony: “My favorite things at Fun Fore All are the Go-karts, the XD Dark Ride, outdoor rock climbing wall, ballocity ball pit and playing games and winning prizes.”
Fun Fore All is one of the largest year-round family entertainment centers in the area. This facility features a huge video arcade and several indoor and outdoor attractions. There’s something for all ages to enjoy everyday no matter what the weather. You can also enjoy an extensive food menu with great items like delicious pizza, wraps, salads and other great food favorites as well.
