The new sports complex, opening this weekend, will bring new business to the community
CRANBERRY TWP., PA (August 12, 2015) – After nearly two years of construction, Butler County welcomes the first-of-its-kind UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. The complex will serve as the primary practice and training facility for the Pittsburgh Penguins as well as a comprehensive outpatient facility for UPMC Sports Medicine. The new complex is located alongside Interstate 79, in Cranberry Township, Butler County and will become a destination for athletes of all ages and skill levels seeking sports medicine, training, rehabilitation and hockey-specific skill training and performance testing.
“We’re thrilled to be in partnership with the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex and we especially look forward to the new business the facility will bring to Butler County,” said Jack Cohen, President of Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau. "The sports complex is a wonderful addition to the community and they’re great to work with along with UPMC. We’re excited to work with them within our community and with the sporting groups brought into the area. We’re all eager for that first puck to drop to show off what an impressive facility it is and the direct benefits it will bring to Butler County," said Cohen.
Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau will coordinate housing arrangements for the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. All tournaments booked at the complex will be outsourced exclusively to Butler County hotels, dining destinations, meeting spaces and other area businesses.
Over 10,000 pre-registrants from all over Pittsburgh and surrounding areas will flock to the open house event on Sunday, August 16th. Guests will get a first-hand look at the impressive new facility and have the opportunity to test out the new ice rink with four and a half hours of open skating sessions.
More than 400,000 people are expected to visit the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex throughout the year and with six hockey tournaments already secured, a significant amount of new business is promised to be coming to Butler County hotels, restaurants and other businesses.
