Slippery Rock — This Town Rocks!
Welcome to Slippery Rock! No, it’s not a joke. That is the real name of the town!
Venture out from your man cave and take advantage of all that Butler County has to offer.
We've designed this weekend itinerary with you in mind. Hunting, fishing, beer, racing...does it get any better?
Start your day off right by spending the morning fishing at Moraine State Park Lake Arthur is a 3,225-acre warm water fishery with northern pike, largemouth bass, channel catfish, black crappie and bluegill. Go past the pier by renting a pontoon boat and setting sail from one of the park’s three boat launch areas; Bear Run Boat Launch, Park Road Boat Launch and McDanels Boat Launch.
While you're there, give Pizza Joe's Portersville a call. They'll bring you fresh, tasty pizza straight to the park.
Take your pizza party to a new level by booking a cruise with the guys on Preston’s Pearl! This enclosed pontoon touring boat has an upper deck for outdoor viewing for the best views of all Moraine has to offer. You'll learn about the area’s history and wildlife within Moraine State Park- if you’re lucky you’ll spy Eagles or the Osprey nest.
Just 15 minutes from Moraine is the town of Slippery Rock, home to Mystery Mayhem Escapes And Axe Throwing. This is the perfect spot to test your strength and attempt a bullseye throw.
When you’re ready for happy hour, take I-79 North to Slippery Rock for a unique dinner at North Country Brewing Co. Enjoy a taste of the region through a variety of in-house brews served at North Country. Make sure you take advantage of the menu’s heartier items, such as elk burgers and frog legs. You will not be disappointed.
After a hard day spent fishing, eating, and drinking spend the night under the stars at Bear Run Campground.
Choose which option suits you best! Tee up on one of the various golf courses in the county.
The Turn Club, located in Cranberry Township, has state of the art golf simulators, so you won’t have to cancel your tee time due to rain. The Club has an adjoining restaurant that serves up brick oven pizzas, cold beer, and craft cocktails (they claim they have “the most comfortable barstools in the Tri-state area”).
Golfing not your swing? Butler County is also home to Three Rivers Paintball, PA’s largest running paintball field.
Or, head back to Moraine for a day of hunting. About 13,600 acres of Moraine State Park are open to hunting, trapping and the training of dogs during established seasons. Another option is Four Seasons Game Bird Farm, which specializes in pheasant and chukar hunting on their 450 acres. Looking to sharpen your shot? Head to Mars and Keystone Shooting Center, an indoor shooting facility that offers virtual reality training programs for entertainment, sport, and tactical training.
Once you’ve built up an appetite, savor a hot meal from Springfield Grille, noted for their delectable steaks and game entrée selections.
Continue east and stop at Thoma's Meat Market. Pick up some beef jerky and other snacks to enjoy at your last stop for the weekend, Lernerville Speedway. Lernerville is the Home of the "Fab Four": 410 Sprints, Late Models, Modifieds and Stocks. Dirt and fast cars... what a better way to end your getaway?
